Widely
considered to be one of the worst science fiction
movies ever made, Fire
Maidens of Outer Space (1956) revolves around a
perilously laughable mission to the 13th moon of Jupiter by a band of
chain-smoking astronauts in a rocketship replete with office furniture,
a telephone and two-lever control system.
The
moon has an Earth-like atmosphere and the terrain looks suspiciously
like the countryside around Surrey, England, where the movie was
filmed. Once there, the tobacco-addicted astronauts discover a remnant
of the lost city of Atlantis, ruled over by an old man named Prasus and
populated by a bevy of rather plain-looking but scantily-clad females.
They are all being terrorized by an invincible monster
with the body of a man and head of a creature. Called the "Fire God" by
the maidens (hence the title "Fire Maidens"), the monster runs around
growling "GURRRR!" in a costume with its zippers clearly showing.
The alpha female of the maidens decides to keep the
astronauts captive to use as mates. But after the monster kills Prasus
and the brave Earthlings kill the monster, they're allowed to return
home. Taking along one of the maidens, the astronauts blast off in a
cloud of tobacco smoke with promises to send a ship back for the rest.
